Joseph Abe, DDS
Whether you need a simple procedure, such as tooth-colored restorations (fillings), or more complex ones, such as dental crowns, bridges, dental implants or more, Dr. Joseph Abe is very experienced and can help you achieve your dental goals. His mission for the practice is for you and your family to keep your teeth for your whole life without ever needing major dental work again. We strive to enhance the quality of life for everyone associated with our practice.
Dr. Joseph E. Abe is a “Sansei” Japanese‑American who was born in Colorado, lived in Utah and was raised with his family in the Pasadena area, graduating from John Muir High School. He went on to attend Pasadena City College and then enrolled in the University of Southern California, where he received his undergraduate and dental degrees. His father, Dr. Joe Y. Abe, also a dentist, founded the practice in 1938. He is constantly continuing his education with over 70 hours of training each year in the field. Dr. Abe is an active member of the community, being a past president of the San Gabriel Valley Dental Society and past president, and charter member, of the Pasadena City College Foundation. He has served as a dental consultant to the Los Angeles County School Head Start Grantee Program and served as a staff dentist for the South Bay Children’s Center. 
A ski patroller for 25 years, Dr. Abe was patrol leader at Bear Mountain and Snow Forest ski areas in Big Bear, California. He and his wife, Joni, have three sons—two of whom are married—and 5 grandchildren whom they absolutely adore! They are avid skiers and also love to mountaineer and travel together. Dr. and Mrs. Abe attend Evangelical Free Church, and Mrs. Abe has been a discussion leader for 16 years with Bible Study Fellowship International.
For 80 years, Dr. Abe has been contributing to the world around him with his many activities, projects and accomplishments. When you look at his extensive history, two things stand out clearly; Dr. Abe loves staying active and helping people!
Organizations
-Dr. Abe was a Boy Scout, BSA Troop 41 (the Japanese troop). He was an Eagle Scout with 2 Palms, God and Country, Order of the Arrow, Tatanka Lodge, and Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 477.
-Served as a dental consultant for the Los Angeles County Schools Head Start Program.
-Mexico Inland Mission – massive amounts of USA surplus transferred to ministries in Mexico.
-COA-Christian Outreach Appeal/Christian Outreach in Action, services including foodbank, clothing, furniture, and Men’s and Women’s programs.
-Pasadena City College Foundation – Charter Member, Past President.
-Rancho La Paloma, Tecate, Baja California, Mexico Community Development, Retreat/Conference Facility.
-Sierra Club – BMTC (Basic Mountaineering Training Course), instructor, avalanche / Winter Mountaineering Specialist, Backpack trips, 4×4 trips, river rafting trips, houseboat trips.
-San Gabriel Valley Dental Society (a local component of California Dental Association), American Dental Association; 50 years of Membership, Life Member, went through many offices, Past President.
-BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).

-NSPS – National Ski Patrol System – Holds National Appointment #4461, the highest rank; patroller at June Mountain and Snow Forest in college, later guest-patrolled all over. Past Ski Patrol Leader, Snow Forest, Crystal Ridge, Bear Mountain 9formeerly Moon Ridge, Goldmine) ski areas in Big Bear; National Instructor Rating for Ski Mountaineering; training in Search and Rescue, Avalanche and High Exposure Life Evacuation, 25 years.
-NRA- National Rifle Association; Endowment Life Member.
-Pasadena Target Archery Club.

-Skeet Shooting – International Trap and Skeet, Whittier Narrows; Fish Canyon, Azusa; Watson’s, Long Beach.
-Water Skiing -His kids also like wakeboarding.
-Free and Scuba Diving – 20 years (until kids came along). LA County Scuba Certificate in 2nd year of the start of Scuba Certification (LA County was the first organization to start Scuba Certification; also had NAUI and PADI certifications.
-Hapkido – Green Belt; Korean Martial Arts (Joon M. Jee).
-PCA- Porsche Club of America (1959 356A Super Sunroof Coupe.
-POCA- Pantera Owners Club of America (1980 Pantera GTS race prepped 700 hp by Maloof Racing Engines).
-Silver State Classic Challenge – 100 miles NDOT Course Route 318 out of Ely, Nevada.
-MKM Racing Promotions: Mojave Mile, Mojave Mile 1/3 – Mojave Air, 200 mph Club Ford GT; 170 mph Pantera GTS, Open Road Racing – 100-mile courses on NDOT (Nevada Department of Transportation), Pony Express (Battle Mountain to Austin), Gamblers Run (out of Elko, NV), Bonneville 100 (out of Wendover, UT).
-Fast Lane Racing School – Danny McKeever runs the race driving school out of Willow Springs Raceway, Dr. Abe’s entire family has been through road racing school!
-Advanced Handgun Course – Burro Canyon.
